Silent Manga Audition is a manga contest run by Coamix that encourages artists to express the contest theme through a wordless story. To date, the content has received many entries from around the world in Japanese manga style. Because there is no dialog, these high-quality manga can be enjoyed widely regardless of the reader’s language or country.
For this 13th contest, Coamix is joined by UNESCO, united by the borderless concept of silent manga. The theme is “Together for Peace,” to promote understanding and empathy with others. There will also be a UNESCO Award selected by the UNESCO guest judge. The winner of the UNESCO Award will be invited to the opening of a special SMA13 manga exhibition in Bangkok in May 2020.
Sponsor awards include the graphics software Clip Studio Paint EX from Celsys and drawing tablet Wacom Cintiq 16 from Wacom.

The UNESCO Award is given to the work that most impresses the UNESCO Guest Judge, Akané Nozaki. The winner of this special award will receive an all expenses paid trip to Bangkok, where they will be presented with their UNESCO Award certificate during the opening of the “SMA13-UNESCO Round” Manga Exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre （BACC）!

Originally from Kyoto, Japan, Akané has a BA in Art History and Humanities from New York University, USA, followed by a MA in Art History from University of Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne, France.
Akané joined the UNESCO Culture Sector and then its External Relations and Information Sector at their Headquarters in Paris in 2003, before joining its Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education in Bangkok in 2013 where she now works as the Public Information and Outreach team leader.
