― What kind of work do you do?
The Web Service Development Department is split into several teams who work on development and operation needed for each type of service. Out of those teams, I’m a part of the one that develops and operates services mainly for billing and payment.
There’s a wide-range of work, from reviewing specifications with other departments to proceeding with design and implementation by myself or with my team members, as well as conducting releases, maintenance, and operation. I also conduct technical surveys and maintain documentation as needed.

― You were an intern and then joined the company as a new graduate. What motivated you to participate in the internship and what made you decide to join the company?
I’ve always had a strong desire to leave something in the world that I could be satisfied with that was related to anime and manga. Also I used to use Clip Studio Paint and found out about Celsys, a company that supports creators. I thought it would be great to work there, which led me to participate in the internship.
Through my internship, I felt that Celsys offered an environment in which I could be engaged and challenge myself. That was the deciding factor in my decision to join the company.

― What impression did you have of the internship?
That I could proactively undertake the challenges that I wanted to take on.
During my internship, there was a time when I was struggling if I wanted to be involved not only in web service development, but also in app research and development. When I discussed these concerns with my instructors and supervisors at the time, they kindly listened and supported me.
Then I got to experience interning not only in the Web Service Development Department, but also in the Research and Development section of the App Development Department. Thanks to that experience, I was able to have a broader understanding and it resolved my concerns for my career.
Additionally I was treated as a member of the team during my internship and I had the opportunity to be involved in the development of a service to be released to the world, which was an invaluable experience.
I am still very thankful to those that helped me during my internship.

― What do you focus on in your work?
I am committed to providing services that allow users to be more passionate. To achieve that, I am always thinking about the users’ needs when doing my work.
I also believe that in order to spread passion to users, it is important to be passionate yourself first. Therefore I am passionate about working at Celsys and enjoying my job.

― What do you find challenging and appealing about your work?
Getting user reactions about our services is the most rewarding thing of all. At the same time, I believe that it is one of the best parts about Celsys.
The services that Celsys provides are used around the world, so we receive many reactions from users in many different countries. Of course not all reactions are positive reactions, but every reaction is motivating and rewarding for me. I believe this is a shared feeling among Celsys employees.

ー What kind of work style and company culture does Celsys have?
There’s a sense of freedom. I feel this for two reasons in particular.
First, there are many situations where I have the freedom to choose. At Celsys, you can flexibly choose how you work according to your own situation. You can choose to work from home or at the office, and you can choose what time you start and end work to some extent.
I can choose other aspects of how to work according to my own situation and find it a very comfortable working environment.
Second, employees can proactively challenge themselves regardless of age. At Celsys, I have an environment that not only allows me to actively challenge myself with what I want to do, but also supports me in doing so. I actually had many opportunities to challenge myself during my internship. In fact there are even some young managers and directors at Celsys. I believe that the appeal of Celsys is the flat organizational structure for people to work with one another regardless of age or position.

ー Please share your vision for your career at Celsys.
I’d like to create a new culture for people worldwide to be passionate in. There’s still a lot of things that are not concrete yet, but I think that Celsys can come up with something interesting. For that reason, I want to continue to be passionate about working and challenge myself.

― Finally, please give a message for current students.
I’d like to recommend that you work on “something” that you are passionate about. It doesn’t matter what it is. I believe the experience of working on “something” with passion will become an asset in itself and will definitely provide for you in the future. It doesn't matter if it is something small, so address that interest and please try to take some action if you can. By repeating that process, your interests will broaden and deepen. You may discover that “something” that you can work passionately on. It would be great if it leads you to find “something” that you can devote your life to as a result.
